Bangladesh, who were supposed to become the first country to tour Afghanistan for a bilateral international series, could not live up to the billing as they eventually asked the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) to host the series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The ACB confirmed on September 29 that the three-match ODI series will begin on November 6, with the final match on November 11. The exact venue for the games has yet to be confirmed.
Originally part of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Future Tour Program (FTP), these matches were supposed to be played in July-August of this year. It also included two Tests and two T20Is along with the three ODIs, but the other formats have been removed owing to time constraints.
“The series was postponed due to extreme heat in the UAE and India, where ACB usually hosts its home events,” ACB said in a press release.
“Following extensive discussions, both boards have agreed to proceed with just the ODI leg, which will be crucial in both teams' preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy, which is set to take place in Pakistan in February next year,” it added.
While Afghanistan recently beat South Africa in an ODI series 2-1, Bangladesh are currently on a tour of India for two Tests and three T20Is.
