5 highlights from Bangladesh’s resounding win over Netherlands

Missed the riveting clash between Bangladesh and Netherlands? Don't worry, we've got you covered!

Aryan Dutt makes an instant impact on T20WC debut

Playing his first game of this T20WC, Aryan Dutt picked up from where he left in the 50-over WC last year. The 21-year-old, taking the new ball, dismissed Najmul Shanto on his very second ball before removing Liton Das in his second over. He gave Netherlands just the start they needed.

The offie eventually finished with figures of 4-0–17-2.

Shakib and Tanzid counter-attack for Bangladesh

After losing two quick wickets, Bangladesh surprisingly counter-attacked instead of going into a shell. That was thanks to both Shakib Al Hasan and young Tanzid Hasan, who added 48 runs together in 5.2 overs.

Bangladesh were 54/2 at the end of the powerplay; 37 of those runs came in two overs (18 off third over bowled by Kingma and 19 off sixth over bowled by van Beek).

Shakib carries the innings to help Bangladesh post a solid total

Tanzid departed after the counter-attack but Shakib batted deep and finished unbeaten on 62* to take Bangladesh to a very competitive 159. The left-hander was in horrid form ahead of the clash, but showcased his class and punished the Dutch bowlers. The game saw Shakib post his first T20WC since the 2016 edition in India.

Middle-order gives the Netherlands hope

Both Netherlands openers departed cheaply, but, on the day, the middle-order stepped up to give the Dutch a real shot at victory. Between them, Vikramjit Singh (26 off 16), Sybrand Engelbrecht (33 off 22) and Scott Edwards (25 off 23) added 84 runs as Netherlands found themselves at 104/3 after 14 overs, needing 56 to win off the final six overs.

Mustafizur and Rishad finish the job off for Bangladesh

From being in pole position, the chase went downhill for the Dutch thanks to the duo of Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain. The pair bowled 4 of the last 8 overs and conceded just 18 runs while taking four massive wickets.

Rishad’s double-wicket 15th over started the downfall; Fizz’s 1-run 17th over, in which Edwards fell, sealed the deal for the Tigers.
