Head, Abhishek start well
Travis Head (102) and Abhishek Sharma (34) got Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) off to a rollicking start with their attacking strokeplay, putting on 108 for the first wicket in just 49 balls. Head then went on to score a ton of 39 deliveries – the fourth fastest in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
Expensive end
RCB had conceded just 36 off overs 16, 17 and 18. However, in the last two overs, Abdul Samad (37) and Aiden Markram (32) went berserk in the last two, scoring 46 runs to get to 287, the highest total in IPL history, beating the record they set on March 27 in Hyderabad.
Kohli, Faf onslaught
Virat Kohli (42) and Faf du Plessis (62) got Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) off to an ideal start in pursuit of 288. They got 79 in the powerplay to give RCB a glimmer of hope in the mammoth run-chase.
Cummins, Markande pull things back
After RCB got off to a superb start Mayank Markande (2/46) and Pat Cummins (3/43) pulled things back picking up four of the five wickets to fall between overs 7-10, including that of Kohli and du Plessis, to deflate the chase.
DK steals the show
Dinesh Karthik showed he’s still got it, smashing 83 off just 35 deliveries to keep RCB in the hunt, which included five fours and seven sixes. He smashed it everywhere, but none in the ‘V’ down the ground.
