Yet another slow start for LSG
Lucknow were slow to get off the blocks yet again, and it was KL Rahul again who was in the middle of it all. He took 41 deliveries to score his 55 runs, and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had just 69 runs on the board by the 10th over.
And then came Pooran…
And everything changed for LSG as they scored 145 runs in the next 10 overs, with Nicholas Pooran having a blast and scoring 75 off just 29 balls. Along with Ayushi Badoni’s 22* off 10, he ensured LSG’s total reached 214/6 in 20 overs.
Mumbai Indians (MI)’s first half of the chase starkly contrasted with how LSG played it. Rohit Sharma’s blistering 68 off 38 took MI to 92/2 in 10 overs. At that point, they were ahead in the game, but not for long.
And then Bishnoi and Krunal happened
Krunal Pandya (1/29) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/37) held the fort for LSG in the middle overs and got the ball to grip in the absence of dew. Pandya packed up Suryakumar Yadav in the 10th over, and then Bishnoi got Rohit and Nehal Wadhera in the 11th and 15th overs, respectively to plunge MI’s chase.
Naman Dhir’s spectacular but futile fightback
Dhir came to the crease in the 15th over when MI needed 90 off the last five overs. His clean big hitting, which included five sixes, four fours and 62 runs off 28 deliveries, took MI within 18 runs of the target. But it still wasn’t enough, as MI ended their disastrous season on a woebegone note.
