Vaibhav Suryavanshi, on October 1 (Tuesday), became the youngest player to score a century at any professional level.
Playing for India Under-19, the left-handed batter from Bihar smashed 104 off 62 deliveries in the first of two red-ball games against Australia Under-19 at Chepauk.
Suryavanshi got to his hundred off just 58 deliveries, hitting 14 fours and four maximums. That's the fastest century by an Indian batter in all recorded Under-19 Tests and only second behind Moeen Ali, who scored a 56-ball ton in 2005.
At 13 years and 188 days, Suryavanshi broke Najmul Hossain Shanto’s record. The current Bangladesh captain scored a hundred against Sri Lanka in 2013 at the age of 14 years and 241 days.
After Australia Under-19 got bowled out for 293, Suryavanshi put on an opening partnership of 133 in 18.5 overs alongside Vihan Malhotra. He was eventually run out in the 19th over.
Suryavanshi made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar earlier this year, reportedly at the age of 12. In four innings, the youngster could only manage 31 runs at an average of 7.75. He even registered a pair against Chhattisgarh.
He has also appeared in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and the Under-19 Challenger Trophy. Suryavanshi was then picked for the Quadrangular series, which also features Bangladesh and England.
