Young replaces injured Clarkson for third Pakistan T20I

Josh Clarkson was set to replace Kane Williamson for the third T20I

Ahead of the third T20I against Pakistan, a young Josh Clarkson was expected to replace the skipper Kane Williamson in the setup. But now, Clarkson's shoulder injury has ruled him out of the fixture, with Will Young set to replace the all-rounder.

Clarkson injured his shoulder while representing the Central Districts in the Super Smash. Young will now join the squad after the conclusion of the second T20I on Sunday (January 14). In 97 T20 games, the right-handed Young has scored 2290 runs, averaging 26.62 with 14 fifties and two centuries.

However, at the T20I level, Young has scored just 260 runs, with an average of 20, including two half-centuries, with the runs coming at a strike-rate of 102.36. However, Young comes into this clash in stellar form, scoring a half-century and a century in the Super Smash. Against Wellington, the right-hander scored a 33-ball 50 while he put up a 63-ball 101 in the clash against Otago.

In the opener, it was one-way traffic from Daryl Mitchell, who scored a 27-ball 61 to lead New Zealand to a strong total of 226/8. With the ball, it was Tim Southee who picked up four crucial wickets, leading the Black Caps to a 46-run win over Pakistan in the first T20I.
