Yashasvi Jaiswal is probably going to get over 40 Test hundreds: Maxwell

The white-ball superstar attested that the hosts will be in big trouble in the rest of the series if they don’t find a way to neutralise Jaiswal’s threat

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell has lavished praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal and believes the young opener has the talent, potential and determination to end up with over 40 Test hundreds to his name.

Jaiswal entered the Perth Test against Australia with four failures under his belt in South Africa and a duck in the first innings of the first Test left many wondering if he had the technique to succeed outside India. However, the left-hander bounced back in astonishing fashion in the second innings to post 161 that set-up India’s mammoth victory of 295 runs.

This Jaiswal’s fourth hundred in Tests, and each one of them has been 150+ scores. Speaking on The Grade Cricketer, Maxwell attested how ‘special’ Jaiswal could end up breaking all sorts of records in the longest format.

"I remember watching Yashasvi Jaiswal playing against England and thinking how he's got an answer for everything: he's got different gears, he's got a great ability to go through the tempos of the game,” Maxwell said on The Grade Cricketer.

“He played a lot of shots that will be on highlight packages but the stuff he did in between that were also special. He doesn't seem to have many weaknesses - he plays the short ball well, drives well, plays spin exceptionally well and can absorb pressure for periods of time. He's a guy who is probably going to get over 40 Test hundreds and make a few other records as well.”

The white-ball superstar attested that the hosts will be in big trouble in the rest of the series if they don’t find a way to neutralise Jaiswal’s threat.

“It's going to be scary if Australia don't find a way to stop him over the next few games,” Maxwell said.

In the same interview, Maxwell gave his views on Jasprit Bumrah and claimed that the 30-year-old could go down as the best fast bowler in history.

"Bumrah is potentially gonna go down as the best fast bowler of all time,” Maxwell said.

“Maybe not with the amount of wickets he takes [in each format] but ask the guys who have played against him and they'll tell you how difficult he is [to face]. He's got such a unique ability with the ball. He can rush you, he can beat you on the outside edge, inside edge and he's got a good slower ball. He's just got the complete package."
