Yash Dhull and five others test positive for COVID-19 at ICC Under-19 World Cup

Nishant Sindhu is at the helm of the Indian side against Ireland in the absence of Dhull

India Under-19 skipper Yash Dhull, vice-captain Sheikh Rasheed and four players have tested positive for COVID-19, forcing them out of the league game against Ireland here on Wednesday.

Dhull, vice-captain SK Rasheed, Manav Parakh, Siddarth Yadav, Aaradhya Yadav and Vasu Vats are in isolation as they were tested positive on routine Rapid Test while entering the Brain Lara Stadium this morning.

If they are tested positive on RT-PCR, the players will have to quarantine. The general quarantine period in Trinidad is 21 days. However, for the players, the quarantine period is a minimum of five days.

"Three Indian players had tested positive yesterday and were already isolated. In the morning before the match, our captain and vice-captain also tested positive in Rapid Antigen Test, which is not conclusive," a BCCI official told PTI.

"So they, as a precautionary measure, were pulled out. The players included skipper Yash Dhull and his deputy Shaikh Rasheed. We only had 11 available players and six isolated," the official added.

With 17 players allowed by the ICC for this event, the Indian team could barely field a playing XI. The next league match of the Indian side is against Uganda on Saturday, 22nd January.

India will play their possible quarter-final match on the 29th in Antigua and will require a negative RT-PCR Test before travelling to Antigua
