India’s former wicketkeeper-batter, Wriddhiman Saha, is set to retire from all forms of cricket after the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. Saha started the season with a duck against Uttar Pradesh and didn’t get a chance to bat in the second game against Kerala due to persistent rain.
“After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I’m honoured to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire. Let’s make this season one to remember!” Saha posted on X.
Saha had shifted his base to Tripura before the 2022-23 domestic season following a tiff with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), but the 40-year-old returned to the Bengal set-up before the start of the ongoing season.
Last season, Bengal failed to qualify for the knockouts of the Ranji Trophy. They made it through to the quarter-finals of the List A Vijay Hazare Trophy but couldn’t go further. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, Bengal lost to Assam in the preliminary quarter-final.
Saha played the last of his 40 Tests in December 2021 but was a regular in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The wicketkeeper-batter played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, scoring 2,934 runs in 170 IPL games at an average of 24.25 and a strike rate of 127.57.
However, the Titans didn't retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, for which Saha hasn’t registered, the Sportstar reported.
