WPL mini auction scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru: Reports

The third edition of the Women’s Premier League will happen during a three-week window in February-March 2025, before moving to January-February from 2026

The mini-auction for the third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set to be held in Bengaluru on December 15. According to a report published by ESPNCricinfo, the five franchises will get to spend INR 15 crore to build their squad, 1.5 crore more than the last auction.

Ahead of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL), the five franchises announced the retained players list without too much surprise on November 7, with Heather Knight being the biggest name not retained ahead of the new season.

All the teams have released at least one overseas player, which was the trend during retentions. Mumbai let go of Issy Wong, while Delhi released Laura Harris. The 2024 WPL winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have maintained the core of their winning side, with just Nadine de Klerk finding herself out of the setup, which is a direct result of Danni Wyatt-Hodge moving from UP Warriorz (UPW) for INR 30 lakhs in WPL’s first pre-season trade.

The Gujarat Giants (GG) released the India all-rounder Sneh Rana, the biggest Indian player, to be released ahead of the auction. Along with Rana, the Giants have also released T20 World Cup winner Lea Tahuhu and Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce, among others. They also have the biggest purse remaining amongst all the five teams. Meanwhile, the UPW released England pacer Lauren Bell.

With Deandra Dottin available in the Mini auction, the ‘World Boss’ would certainly be amongst the most sought-after players along with England skipper Heather Knight.

The BCCI hasn't yet announced the tournament's format. The last one was played in a caravan format in Bengaluru and Delhi. Teams, however, have asked for a home-and-away format for the upcoming seasons.
