Chinelle Henry leaves the field after getting hit on her face

The fast bowler was fielding at long-on and got hurt while trying to catch out Amelia Kerr

West Indian fast bowler Chinelle Henry suffered an unfortunate injury on the field during the second semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup between New Zealand and West Indies in Sharjah on October 18 (Friday).

The incident happened on the first ball of the 12th over, when Deandra Dotting banged the ball into the track, and Mellie Kerr flat batted it straight to Henry at long-on, who had already missed a catching opportunity of Georgia Plimmer in the 11th over. Henry lost the ball in the lights this time, and the ball went through her hands and hit her straight on her forehead.

Medical support was provided to her immediately, and the play was stopped in the middle for a few minutes after which Henry was supported off the field. The injury looked serious, but there was no official update on it at the time of writing this. Henry had already bowled her four overs for 24 runs.

Meanwhile, the Windies had a very good start to the game after New Zealand elected to bat first. They leaked only 54 runs in the first 10 overs and sent Kerr, Suzie Bates and Plimmer back to the pavilion.

Notably, both these teams clashed in a T20 World Cup semi-final last time in 2016, where the Windies triumphed and went on to win the tournament, which was the first and till date only instance of any team other than Australia or England winning the tournament. Australia have already lost their semi-final in this edition, and the winner of this contest between West Indies and New Zealand will face South Africa in the final on October 20 (Sunday).
