Women’s IPL will do a world of good for Indian cricket: Alana King

There was a strong 8621 people for the Women’s T20 Challenge between Supernovas and Velocity

Even though Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board have been organizing their respective women’s leagues for some time now, the BCCI has been left far behind in terms of their preparation to take the profile of Women’s cricket forward. Three editions of the Women’s T20 Challenge have been done and dusted and if the reports are to be believed, the BCCI is planning to organize the first-ever Women’s IPL in 2023.

Australian legspinner Alana King hopes that the BCCI would plan it soon as she feels it would do a world of good for the budding Indian cricketers. "A lot of the girls are crying out for something like the IPL to start up," King told ESPNcricinfo. "We've got the Big Bash, there's the Hundred and the women's IPL will be a really good tournament to showcase the Indian domestic players that I came to play alongside and get to know a bit.

"It's scary to see the talent they've got in their domestic system. It will do Indian cricket a world of good as well as world cricket and I think everyone is just excited. The talk was that hopefully there's a proper IPL next year and I'll definitely be putting my hand up for it…hopefully, there's enough traction. There's definitely enough talent within India to start it up."

There was a strong 8621 people for the Women’s T20 Challenge between Supernovas and Velocity and King felt it was the biggest crowd she had faced in her career. "It was electric, to be honest. I've never played in front of a crowd that was so loud you could barely hear yourself think,” King added.

The BCCI hinted at organizing the Women's IPL in 2023 and the fact that companies showed interest to be a stakeholder in 2022 added to the piece.
