WATCH: Sam Konstas reverse scoops Bumrah for six at MCG

The debutant also slammed India's ace paceman for his most expensive over in Test cricket

Imagine you are a 19-year-old making your debut in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

You are up against arguably the best bowler of the generation, with the ball moving both ways. The same bowler who has claimed 21 wickets in the first three Tests at an average of less than 11.

And what do you do? Well, you surely don’t scoop him thrice in an over and slam him for 14 runs in the seventh over of the Test. And with two of those scoops being a reverse.

Well, that’s what Sam Konstas did to Jasprit Bumrah on day one of the fourth Test on December 26 (Thursday). The youngster tried two reverse scoops in Bumrah’s first three overs but failed to get bat to the ball.

That didn’t stop Konstas from trying it again in Bumrah’s fourth over, but this time around, the right-hander started with a conventional scoop and got a boundary off the first delivery of the seventh over.

With his confidence high, Konstas tried the reverse scoop on the next delivery and, this time, got enough bat on it to send it over the fence towards the third man region, the first six Bumrah conceded in three years. That wasn’t it; Konstas then hit the penultimate delivery for another reverse whip, this time for four.

With that, Konstas hammered Bumrah for his third-most expensive over in Test cricket. He also became the seventh batter to hit Bumrah for a six in red-ball cricket. Konstas then whacked him for another six in the 11th over of the innings, this time over long-on, and became only the second batter after Jos Buttler to hit Bumrah for two sixes in Test cricket.

In that over, Konstas collected 18 runs off Bumrah - the most he has ever conceded in Test cricket.

Six overs, two maidens, 38 runs, and zero wickets - that’s what Konstas did to Bumrah in his first spell.
