LR Chethan, the most expensive buy at the Maharaja T20 auction earlier this year, justified his hype and price tag at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on August 30 (Friday) as the right-hander smashed his personal best score of the season to power the Bengaluru Blasters into their second final in three seasons.
Chethan, heading into the first semi-final against the Gulbarga Mystics, had only one 50-plus score in the season and had registered 7 & 7 in his previous two games. But here, chasing 156, he hammered an unbeaten 89 off just 51 balls to help Bengaluru get to the target with nearly three full overs to spare.
Earlier, a team effort from the Blasters bowlers saw them bowl Gulbarga out for 155. Luvnith Sisodia (41 off 20) got the Mystics off to a flyer, but Mohsin Khan, Lavish Kaushal, Kranthi Kumar and Shubhang Hegde all picked up two-wicket hauls to floor Gulbarga.
In the chase, skipper Mayank Agarwal also complemented his opening partner Chethan, scoring a fifty himself. The Blasters will now take on either Mysore or defending champions Hubli Tigers in the final on September 1 (Sunday).
