Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, through his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Mangesh Chiwte, assured former India cricketer Vinod Kambli of financial help of INR 5 Lakh for his treatment on December 25 (Wednesday).
Kambli was admitted to Akruti Hospital, Bhiwandi, on December 21 and shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with complaints of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
Pratap Sarnaik, a minister in the Maharashtra government, also visited the hospital and then wrote on X about Kambli’s notable contribution to cricket.
“Vinod Kambli is a shining name in Indian cricket, who has always made the nation proud with his performances. His eyes still reflect the same determination and fighting spirit that he has always displayed on the field. His condition is currently stable, and I am confident that he will recover soon," Sarnaik posted on X.
Kambli was recently seen alongside Sachin Tendulkar as the latter inaugurated a memorial of the pair's coach, Ramakant Achrekar. However, it was Kambli’s health that was the talking point after he looked very frail. Earlier, Kambli was recorded by a person on a footpath in Pune, where his health looked noticeably compromised.
A former India player, Kambli also represented Mumbai for a long time in domestic cricket. Though he could play only 17 Tests and 104 ODIs, the southpaw went on to feature in 129 First-Class and 221 List-A games.
