Victory parade in Mumbai to welcome India following T20 World Cup triumph

Rohit Sharma's men are expected to arrive in Mumbai on July 4 (Thursday), following a delay due to a hurricane in Barbados

Rohit Sharma & Co. will be on an open-top bus when they arrive in Mumbai following their triumphant T20 World Cup 2024, as part of their victory parade. India beat South Africa by seven runs in the final in Barbados on June 29, thereby ending their trophy drought.

This was India's first T20 World Cup since 2007 and their first ICC trophy since 2013. As a result, the BCCI has decided to welcome their heroes with a parade upon their return. But it will be only a two-kilometre stretch, given that the players would be exhausted following their delayed departure due to Hurricane Beryl.

“The players are tired and are mentally fatigued. That is why it was decided to have a short open-top bus parade from NCPA, Nariman Point, to Wankhede Stadium, which is not more than 2 kilometres, followed by prize distribution, where the INR 125 crore prize money will be distributed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah,” a source in the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India said, according to Indian Express.

Upon reaching the Wankhede Stadium, the players will be feliciated.

The team left Barbados on July 3 (Wednesday) afternoon on a chartered plane and will arrive in Mumbai via Delhi. The entire squad will then have breakfast with PM Narendra Modi on July 4 (Thursday) at 11 AM before they jet off to Mumbai. The chartered plane was arranged by the BCCI following a delay due to the hurricane, which resulted in the airport in Bridgetown being shut down as a precaution.

A similar parade was organised in 2007 when MS Dhoni led India to victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup.
