Decoding all T20 World Cup 2024 venues

Nine venues will be hosting the 9th edition of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. New York and Dallas will be hosting its first ever International matches

ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 will be hosted in the West Indies for the second time after 2010. USA will also be the co-hosts and will officially host an ICC tournament for the first time. 

A total of nine venues will be hosting the event with six in West Indies and three in USA. The newly built Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York and Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas will be hosting their first International match. Apart from these two, the other seven venues have hosted T20 Internationals (T20I). So, let us look at how these stadiums are and have performed in T20Is so far.

Kensington Oval, Barbados 

Matches: 24

Wins: Bat 1st – 16, Bat 2nd – 7, NR – 1

Avg 1st inns score – 162/7

Avg 1st inns winning score – 171/6

Venue Analysis: 

1. Kensington Oval has hosted 24 T20Is which is the most at a venue in West Indies

2. Pacers have been very effective in taking wickets at Barbados. Spinners have taken lesser wickets than expected. But, they have an economy that pacers would be jealous of

1. Pacers have picked up wickets quite frequently but at the cost of conceding runs while spinners have a far better economy

- Pace: 8 inns, 33 wkts, 4.1 wkts/inns, 9.0 econ

- Spin: 8 inns, 22 wkts, 2.8 wkts/inns, 7.5 econ

2. It is one of the most batting friendly wickets in West Indies as the run rate at this venue - 8.9 - is the second-best among venues in the Caribbean

3. When England played West Indies at this venue last year, they scored 267/3, which remains the highest T20I total in West Indies

4. Left-arm pacers have been the best wicket-takers at this venue as they have a strike rate of 11.0

- Pace: 4 inns, 8 wkts, 2.0 wkts/inns, 8.1 econ

3. Of the 19 wickets taken by spinners, 11 have been taken by off-spinners which shows finger spinners having an advantage in these conditions
