Tropical storm to hamper T20 World Cup 2024 final?

There is a provision for a reserve day if the match on June 29 (Saturday) is washed out

India and South Africa will clash in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, which is set to be played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29 (Saturday). However, there are likely to be rain interruptions as a tropical storm in the Caribbean threatens to play spoilsport.

According to the Barbados Meteorological Services, while there are no warnings in effect for Barbados, a tropical storm watch as well as marine advisories may be issued in Barbados on Saturday.

However, there is some good news.

"The tropical wave is likely to develop into a tropical storm over the next few days and is expected to affect Barbados late Sunday night into Monday 1st July 2024," Barbados Meteorological Services said in a statement.

A further update on barbadosweather.org states, "Some minor water settlements are likely on roads and concrete surfaces around Kensington Oval. Showers and possible thunderstorms could result in some disruptions."

According to the same portal, the forecast for match day is "mostly cloudy with scattered showers and a very slight chance of isolated thunderstorms."

Hence, get ready for a stop-start match, much like the semi-final between India and England in Guyana.

However, what happens if play is washed out? A reserve day has been added for the final, which is on June 30 (Sunday). The match will resume from where the teams left off on the previous day at 8 PM IST, the following day,

Also, another tweak the ICC has made for the semi-final and the final was that a minimum of 10 overs per side would be required to constitute a match. If even that is not possible across the two days, including the reserve day, India and South Africa will be declared joint winners.

India entered the final following a 68-run over England in the semi-final in Guyana, while South Africa defeated Afghanistan by nine wickets to make it to their first-ever World Cup final.
