Travis Head jumps to second in ICC Test rankings

The Australia batter, who has reached his career-best spot, is now just nine ranking points away from the No. 1 ranked Test batter, Kane Williamson

Australia batter Travis Head has overtaken teammates Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne to jump to second place in ICC's latest Test rankings for batters. Head, who scored 39 and 77 in the Headingley Test against England is now just nine points off Kane Williamson, who is sitting on the top with 883 rating points.

Head's previous career best was No. 3, which he attained after scoring a match-winning 163 in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India at The Oval.

Among the England players, Harry Brook too has jumped up to 12th among batters - his career-best, while skipper Ben Stokes has moved into the top 20 following a match-altering 80 at Headingley, for the first time since September last year.

There was good news for the bowlers as well, as Stuart Broad's five wickets in his side's victorious Test in Leeds, sees him jump to sixth, while Mark Wood, who jumped nine places to 26th, has attained 591 ranking points - the most he has had in his career.

Moving on to ODIs, Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan moves up three places to fourth in the ICC rankings for bowlers, while Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is back in the top 10.

After clinching the ODI series, Afghanistan will now focus on the two T20Is against Bangladesh on July 14 and 16 in Sylhet.

Despite losing the Headingley Test, Australia will carry a 2-1 lead in the five-match series, going into the match against England at Old Trafford, starting July 19.
