Taj Nehar, who made her international debut in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, has earned her maiden One-Day International (ODI) call-up along with Sanjida Akter for the upcoming series against Ireland at home. 27-year-old Nehar managed scores of 0, 7 and 1 in the three matches at the mega event, while Sanjida, who was not part of the World Cup squad, has played 18 T20 Internationals (T20I) since making her debut in 2019.
Meanwhile, the experienced duo of Sharmin Akhter and Jahanara Alam have returned to the ODI setup. In fact, Sharmin missed the T20 World Cup in the UAE earlier this year and last played for Bangladesh in ODIs against India at home in July 2023.
Jahanara is one of three Bangladesh players to have played 50 ODIs. In her 52 matches in the format, she has 40 wickets at an economy rate of 4.26.
Farzana Akter, Sumaiya Akter, Disha Biswas and Nishita Akter are some of the players who have not been picked for the series. This is the first time Bangladesh will be in action in ODIs since their series against Australia in April this year.
Bangladesh have the upper hand against Ireland, having won the last bilateral series against them in 2016. However, they have won only three of their six matches against them.
On this tour, they will play three ODIs in Dhaka on November 27, 30 and December 2. The three T20Is will take place in Sylhet on December 5, 7 and 9.
