T20 World Cup 2024 final: Gaffaney, Illingworth appointed on-field umpires

Richard Kettleborough will be the TV Umpire for the match, while Rod Tucker will be the Fourth Umpire

Chris Gaffaney and Richard Illingworth will be the on-field umpires for the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29 (Saturday), the ICC announced on June 28 (Friday).

Richard Kettleborough will be the TV Umpire for the match, while Rod Tucker will be the Fourth Umpire. Richie Richardson has been announced as the match referee for the summit clash.

This is the second consecutive World Cup final for Illingworth, who also oversaw the ODI World Cup final between India and Australia in Ahmedabad in November last year. Kettleborough partnered him on the field that night, while Joel Wilson and Andy Pycroft were the TV umpire and Match Referee, respectively.

In fact, Gaffaney and Illingworth were the umpires in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final that also featured India and Australia at The Oval.

Rohit Sharma's men will once again take the field in a World Cup final, this time against Aiden Markram's South Africa, who have made it this far for the first time in their history. Both teams go into the clash unbeaten.

While India defeated defending champions England by 68 runs in Guyana on June 27 (Thursday), South Africa qualified for the final with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan on June 26 (Wednesday) in Trinidad.

India will be looking to add to their T20 World Cup title, having last won in 2007.
