Head rides his luck
Travis Head (48) had a couple of lives in his innings. In the fifth over, he was bowled off a no-ball from the debutant Anshul Kamboj when he was on 24. In the seventh over, Nuwan Thushara dropped an easy catch of Head when the left-hander was on 44. While he got out a few balls later against Piyush Chawla, he lived quite a life, which started SRH's capitulation.
Chawla, Pandya step up
Piyush Chawla (3/33) and Hardik Pandya (3/31) finished with 6/64 in eight overs between them. Chawla snapped Head, Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad. Pandya nailed Nitish Reddy, Marco Jansen and Shahbaz Ahmed. Thus, the duo picked vital SRH players between them. These are the best bowling figures of the season for both players. SRH, as a result, scored only 64/4 in their middle overs.
Clutch Cummins
SRH captain Pat Cummins (35* off 17) came in clutch with the bat, stretching Hyderabad’s score to 173 from 124/7 when he walked in to bat in the 16th over. For the ninth wicket, Cummins forged a partnership of 37 off only 19 balls with the Impact Player, Sanvir Singh.
Penetrative bowling from SRH
Defending 174, SRH conceded plenty of extras. Out of MI’s first 31 runs, 18 came from leg byes and wides. But the Hyderabad pacers soon corrected their line, and in the blink of an eye, MI slumped from 26/0 to 31/3. At that point, it seemed like another batting failure would capsize Mumbai like their previous defeat against Kolkata.
Surya, Tilak race MI to finish line
Suryakumar Yadav had different plans alongside Tilak Varma. The duo forged an unbeaten 143-run stand off 79 deliveries. After battling the lateral movement, Tilak knocked the ball around (37* from 32 balls) while Surya counter-attacked to shift the pressure on SRH.
MI scored 23 runs more than SRH in the middle overs without losing a wicket. Surya eventually finished with 102* from 51 balls.
