Surprised the price didn't go up for Warner: DC's Parth Jindal

David Warner returned to the Delhi franchise for price of Rs. 6.25 crore

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal felt that the price tag of Rs. 6.25 crore was too low for a quality player like David Warner after the franchise secured his services for IPL 2022.

Warner, who was stripped off captaincy by Sunrisers Hyderabad last season, finished Player of the Tournament at the 2021 T20 World Cup as Australia lifted its maiden title. Jindal expressed his excitement to watch the southpaw opening alongside Prithvi Shaw in the upcoming season.

"I think we were a bit surprised that the price did not go high for him. He had played for Delhi in the past and we are very excited to have him. With Prithvi and him, we have a powerful opening pair. The Powerplay will be something to behold and we can't wait for the IPL to begin," Jindal said about Warner.

DC also bought Shardul Thakur for Rs. 10.75 crore as Jindal said that Thakur's allround abilities were the reason behind their bid for the former Chennai Super Kings player.

"We are excited Shardul joining Delhi Capitals. We have been great admirers of his skills and progression. We admire his allround abilities; His ability to bowl with the new ball and his ability to bowl at death and his ability to produce cameos with the bat," Jindal explained.

Speaking about the franchise's decision to get Kuldeep Yadav for the base price of Rs. 2 crore, Jindal felt that the left-armer would be key on slow pitches. Yadav, who returned to the Indian side after a a gap of seven months, claimed 2-51 against West Indies in the second ODI.

"There was Yuzvendra Chahal, there was Rahul Chahar, and Kuldeep Yadav, who were the three marquee spinner that were available. We are very happy to get  Kuldeep at the price we got. He has just come back into the Indian team and he hasn't played much IPL for the past few seasons. We are excited him to welcome him back at Delhi. He is very well aware of the conditions and with his wrist spin he would be great on a slow pitch at Kotla," Jindal added.

New IPL franchise Gujarat Titans secured the likes of Jason Roy (Rs 2 crore), Mohammed Shami (Rs. 6.25 crore) and Lockie Ferguson (Rs. 10 crore) as Director of Cricket Vikram Solanki was satisfied with their picks.

"We are very satisfied with the three players we have so far. We are also satisfied with the players we have got in the auction so far. As far as our preparations, they have been no different from the others as we have gone through the list time and time again. We have experienced hands in the form of Ashish Nehra, Gary Kirsten and Ashish Kapoor," Solanki said.

"As far as value is concerned, we are happy that we got Jason Roy for the price we did," he added.

Solanki felt that the importance of pacers in the Powerplay and at the death has made fast bowlers the most valuable in the auctions.

"As far as fast bowlers are concerned, we know that they are very important in T20 cricket. Whether it is wrist spin or someone with an X-factor who could move the ball into or away from the batter is very valuable. It is expected that they are going to attract high bids."
