If reports are to be believed, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are highly likely to retain Travis Head and the recently capped India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction. ESPNCricinfo has reported the two players to be completing SRH’s set of five retained players, the final date for which is October 31.
Earlier, ESPNCricinfo reported that SRH will retain Heinrich Klaasen (INR 23 crore), Pat Cummins (18 crore) and Abhishek Sharma (14 crore) as their first three retentions. Head is understood to be retained for INR 14 crore, while Reddy will get INR 6 crore.
Hence, it is clear that SRH are going in with the strategy to retain all their big players.
SRH will still be left with one slot to retain an uncapped player. If they don’t use it, they will have a right-to-match (RTM) card available to draft an uncapped player back into their squad.
Both Head and Reddy were vital in SRH’s 2024 season where the side made it to their first final in six years. Head belted 567 runs at a whopping strike rate of 191.6, amassing four fifties and a hundred. Reddy was the rock in their middle order, accruing 303 runs at an average and strike rate of 33.7 and 142.9, respectively. He also picked up three wickets with the ball. His stellar season, primarily with the bat, elevated him to the India cap as Reddy made his T20I debut for India against Bangladesh earlier this month. He scored 74 off 34 balls in Delhi, winning the Player of the Match award and is picked in India’s 18-man squad for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy Down Under.
Cummins is expected to lead SRH in the 2025 season, working alongside Daniel Vettori as head coach.
While October 31 is the deadline for all franchises to announce their retentions, the dates for the mega auction are yet to be finalised.
