It was a nightmarish day for both Soumya Sarkar and his Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 team Rangpur Riders in the eliminator of the tournament. Soumya was out without facing a ball, becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to register a diamond duck (out without facing a ball) in T20s.
This score of naught was his 31st in the T20s, making him the unfortunate holder of the highest number of ducks recorded by a Bangladeshi in the 20-over format. He left behind former captain and Bangladesh great Shakib Al Hasan, who has 30 ducks to his name in 444 matches.
Most Ducks by Bangladeshi batters in T20s | |
---|---|
Bangladesh Player | Ducks in T20s |
Soumya Sarkar | 31 |
Shakib Al Hasan | 30 |
Imrul Kayes | 22 |
Tamim Iqbal | 20 |
Mushfiqur Rahim | 19 |
Soumya, though, has played only 237 matches and yet has 31 ducks to his name. The record for most ducks though is with West Indian Sunil Narine, who has recorded 47 ducks in 536 matches in the shortest format of the game.
As a result of Soumya getting out for a duck, destruction by spin followed as Riders were bowled out for 85. The Mehidy Hasan Miraz-led Khulna Tigers chased the target down in only 10.1 overs.
