Shreyas and Cummins are two good options for captaincy: KKR CEO

KKR CEO Venky Mysore was delighted that his team was able to secure the services of Pat Cummins and Shreyas Iyer

Kolkata Knight Riders cheif executive Venky Mysore expressed his delight after securing the services of Australian Test captain Pat Cummins and former Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer as he felt both the players are good captaincy options in the Indian Premier League 2022.

KKR roped in Cummins for Rs 7.25 crore and Iyer for Rs 12.25 on the first day of the mega-auction.

"Delighted with the first session. We got Pat Cummins for that price. We thought he would go higher. Shreyas, obviously, a quality player at the top of the Indian batting order," Venky told reporters.

"As far captaincy, thats a decision the coach and the think tank will take. Between Cummins and Shreyas, we have two good options," he added.

Punjab Kings have roped in former Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan for Rs 8.25 crore as the KKR CEO felt was a good buy for the team.

"If you talk about Shikhar Dhawan, it would be a mistake to think he is not a game changer. We would've been happy to get him but are really happy that Punjab have got him. If you look at the stats, he has got the most 500-plus runs per season than any other player. Age is just a number and he will keep playing and playing. So best of luck to Punjab for getting him," Venky said.

With Punjab Kings' parting ways with KL Rahul, team co-owner Mohit Burman said the decision about captaincy will be taken by head coach Anil Kumble was happy to be win the bid for Dhawan.

"It is also a common thing to see that in the auction, there are more number of Indian players coming up because of the unavailability of foreign players. We are happy for getting Shikhar and hope he does well. We always wanted to get a senior player in our side"

"About the captaincy, Im not in a position to talk about it. It will be taken by our head coach Anil Kumble," he said.
