Shardul Thakur registered his name in the record books after he became the fifth Mumbai bowler to take a hat-trick in Ranji Trophy history.
The feat was achieved by the 33-year-old on January 30 (Thursday) during the last-round league matches of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, where Mumbai was playing Meghalaya at the Bandra-Kurla Complex’ Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai.
The players removed by Shardul during his heroics were B Anirudh, Sumit Kumar and Jaskirat Sachdeva. Thanks to this hat-trick in his second over and the wicket of opener Nishanta Chakravarty in the first, Meghalaya reeled at 14/6 at one point.
However, a partnership developed between Pringsang Sangma and skipper Akash Chaudhary and the team from the North East were 39/6 at the time of writing this.
This was Thakur’s maiden first-class hat-trick. He joined the likes of Jehangir Khot, Umesh Kulkarni, AM Ismail and Royston Dias in the list of Mumbai bowlers with Ranji Trophy hat-tricks.
In the previous game against Jammu and Kashmir, which Mumbai lost, Thakur had scored a splendind hundred.
