After pulling out of The Hundred, Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is in talks to join Canada’s Global T20. According to ESPNCricinfo’s reports, the two leagues are set to clash in 2024, with Afridi preferring the Canadian tournament to England’s marquee tournament.
Only last year, the left-arm pacer appeared at The Hundred for Welsh Fire, picking up six wickets in six games. While he was retained by the franchise, the Pakistan pacer has pulled out of the upcoming edition, citing personal reasons.
"I'm sad to miss out on playing for Welsh Fire this year. I enjoyed the Hundred a lot last season, and I was excited about being back in Cardiff. I wish Mike [Hussey, Welsh Fire's coach] and the team the best of luck for 2024," Afridi was quoted as saying in a press release.
The reports also added that Pakistani players will only get two NOCs (No-Objection Certificate), and Afridi is keen on spending his second NOC for Global T20.
Meanwhile, the Mike Hussey-coached side have replaced Afridi with the New Zealand pacer Matt Henry. However, if Henry’s side in the Major League Cricket (MLC), San Francisco Unicorns reach the playoffs, Henry’s participation in the initial stage of The Hundred would be in doubt.
