Shafali Verma smashes 197 in record-breaking Senior Women's One-Day Trophy clash

The Haryana skipper and opening batter smashed 22 fours and 11 sixes during her 115-ball stay

Shafali Verma, who was recently dropped from India's ODI squad has smashed 197 for Haryana against Bengal in the quarter-final of the Senior Women's One-Day Trophy in Rajkot. She hit 22 fours and 11 sixes in her 115-ball innings, the most ever in an innings in Women's List A cricket, which helped her side put up 389/5 in 50 overs.

She put on 173 with Reema Sisodia (58) for the first wicket. She was eventually dismissed in the 39th over, missing out on her maiden List-A double ton by just three runs. She was dropped from the Indian side for the series against Australia after managing just 108 runs at 18 in WODIs this year. She has not been picked in the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies

Only two Indian women players have hit double tons in the 50-over format. Shweta Sehrawat hit 242 off 150 against Arunachal Pradesh last year, while earlier this month, Uttarakhand's Neelam Bharadwaj smashed an unbeaten 202 off just 137 against Nagaland.

A record chase

Shafali's effort, however, went in vain as Bengal chased down the total by five wickets with five balls to spare. This is the highest successful run-chase in Women's List-A cricket.
