Sanju Samson falls cheaply on Duleep Trophy debut

The wicketkeeper-batter came into the India D side in place of KS Bharat

India D batter Sanju Samson has been dismissed for just five against India A on his Duleep Trophy debut at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur. The wicketkeeper-batter got off to the perfect start, cutting his second ball over the backward point fielder into the fence against fast bowler Aaqib Khan. Aaqib eventually had the final laugh, however, as Samson mistimed a shortish delivery to mid-on.

Samson was recently in action in the T20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka. He did not take part in the first round of the Duleep Trophy, but in the second round, he replaced wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat, who scored 13 and 16 in the previous round.

Samson last played first-class cricket in February this year in the Ranji Trophy clash against Bengal in Thumba, where he led Kerala. He managed just eight in his only innings. Overall, Samson has scored over 3,500 runs in the format since making his debut in 2011.

While he is yet to play Test cricket for India, he has played 16 One-Day Internationals (ODI) and 30 T20Is for his country. He was also part of the 15-member squad that lifted the T20 World Cup in Barbados in June.
