History was scripted at SuperSport Park in Centurion on day two of the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan as Corbin Bosch became the first ever South African to score a fifty and take a 4+ wicket haul on Test debut.
Bosch, 30, who was handed a Test debut to replace the injured Keshav Maharaj, shone on the first day of the Test as he picked 4/63, including striking off his very first ball in Test cricket.
He doubled down on that showing by sizzling with the bat on day two, hammering a rapid fifty to become the first ever South Africa to achieve the rare double of fifty and 4+ wickets on Test debut.
Bosch, in fact, is just the third man this century to achieve the feat. Wanindu Hasaranga and Tim Southee are the other two. Incidentally, Hasaranga achieved the feat at this very same venue four years ago.
Players to score a fifty and take a 4+ wkt haul on Test debut (since 2000)
Tim Southee - 5/55 & 77* vs ENG in 2008
Wanindu Hasaranga - 4/171 & 59 vs SA in 2020
Corbin Bosch - 4/63 & 81* vs PAK in 2024*
Overall, Bosch is just the 16th person in Test history to achieve this rare feat.
On day one, Bosch dismissed Pakistan skipper Shan Masood to get underway in red-ball cricket, breaking a nagging 36-run opening partnership. He then removed Saud Shakeel, Naseem Shah and Aamer Jamal to register a superb four-wicket haul.
Today, he walked out to bat when the Proteas were in deep trouble at 191/7, still trailing Pakistan by 20 runs. From that point, he smashed an unbeaten 81 to help South Africa take a lead of 90.
Agonizingly, Bosch was left stranded as No.11 Dane Paterson perished, trying to slog Saim Ayub out of the ground.
