Veteran batter Joe Root returns to England's One-Day International (ODI) set-up after being named in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Root last played in the 50-over format for England at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
However, there was no room for Ben Stokes, who was not considered for selection as he "continues to be assessed following a left hamstring injury sustained during the third Test match against New Zealand earlier this month," according to a media release from ECB.
England will travel to India for a white-ball tour that will consist of five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The ODI leg of the tour will begin on February 6, and England will have the same 15-member squad available.
Brendon McCullum will take charge of the white-ball side for the first time on that tour after he replaced Matthew Mott following England's disappointing ODI and T20 World Cups.
