Rohit Sharma to arrive in Australia on November 24: Report

According to reports, the Indian skipper will also be available for India day-night tour game in Canberra from November 30

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma is set to join the Indian team for the five-match Test series in Australia on November 24 and will be available for India’s two-day pink-ball tour match on November 30 in Canberra, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. Rohit is skipping the first Test (starting on November 22) in Perth to be with his family for the birth of his second child.

Rohit became a father for the second time on November 15. Given the 10-day gap between the Perth and Adelaide Tests, he will be available to lead the side from the second Test onwards. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in Rohit’s absence in Perth.

On a more important note, Rohit’s return will boost India on the batting front considering that there is a lot of uncertainty around India’s batting order for the first Test, even more so with the recent thumb injury to Shubman Gill.

The two-day tour game against the Prime Minister’s XI will also provide Rohit valuable game time before the day-night Test in Adelaide. Overall, India have played only three day-night Test fixtures, the first being in Adelaide only in 2018 when they were bowled out for 36 in the second innings but returned to win the series 2-1. Rohit, however, wasn’t a part of that Test due to injury. He then featured in India’s other two such fixtures, both at home — vs Bangladesh in 2019 and vs Sri Lanka in 2022.
