Rohit Sharma takes knock on knee during nets ahead of MCG Test

The India skipper's injury is not believed to be serious, and he should be available for the fourth Test vs Australia

India captain Rohit Sharma sustained a knock to his left knee during the net session ahead of the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne on December 22 (Sunday). According to a report in Times of India, Rohit was hit on the knee by throwdown specialist Daya, after which he received treatment from the team's physiotherapist.

Rohit removed his gear and settled in a chair, where the physio applied an ice pack as the batter was in visible pain. The injury does not look serious, but the physio is taking all precautions to ensure that the swelling does not go up. There are still four days left before the start of the Boxing Day Test, and barring fresh injuries, Rohit should be able to take the field.

"Such blows are common when you play cricket. I think this wicket was for white-ball, which is why the ball was staying low. But these blows are common," fast bowler Akash Deep said.

The entire team attended the practice session, including Jasprit Bumrah Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, who bowled in full tilt. Virat Kohli, who has been short of runs in the series faced a lot of side-armers, and then opted to take on spinners Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja.

The five-match Border-Gavaskar Test series is currently level at 1-1. A win for either side will keep them alive in their quest to reach the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord's in June next year.
