Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill swap places in ICC ODI rankings

The Indian skipper had a terrific series against Sri Lanka, where he finished as the highest run-getter

Rohit Sharma has moved to the second spot in the latest ICC One-Day International (ODI) batters rankings. He replaced Shubman Gill, who drops down to number three. Babar Azam is currently leading the charts. Rohit on 765 rating points is just two more ahead than his ODI opening partner Gill. This rise comes after the Indian skipper finished as the highest run-getter in the series against Sri Lanka with 157 runs at 52.33, with a staggering strike rate of 141.44.

Gill did not have the best of series in Sri Lanka as he could muster just 57 runs in three innings at an underwhelming average of 19. India lost the three-match series 0-2. This was Sri Lanka's first series win over India in 27 years. Player of the Series, Dunith Wellalage, who picked up seven wickets, moved up 17 spots to 59th in the bowler rankings.

In Tests, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma, who hit 86 and 15* in the first Test against the West Indies in Port of Spain, attained his career-best rating points (687) and also moved up two spots to 16th in the ICC Test batters rankings. His teammate Keshav Maharaj, who earned plaudits from around the world for his endurance, moved up seven spots to 21st in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers.

Despite their best efforts, South Africa settled for a draw in the rain-curtailed first Test of the series in Trinidad. The two teams will lock horns in the second Test at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, from August 15 (Thursday) onwards.
