Rishabh Pant has swelling on his knee, confirms Rohit Sharma

The wicketkeeper-batter was hit on his knee while keeping on Day Two of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru

In the final ball of the 37th over of the first India-New Zealand Test in Bengaluru,  Devon Conway was almost cleaned up by a Ravindra Jadeja delivery, but the ball just missed the wickets and hit Rishabh Pant on the side of the knee. Pant immediately fell to the ground as the ball hit an unprotected area of his knee, and he walked off the field in pain. As a result, Dhruv Jurel kept wickets for the rest of the day.

India skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed that Pant has developed swelling on the right knee, which was operated on after his car accident. "He has got a swelling on his knee. It's the same knee on which he got the surgery. We don't want to take a risk. Hopefully, he'll be back in this match," Rohit said at the post-match press conference.

Pant top-scored for India with 20 in their total of 46 - the lowest total at home for India. India won the toss and opted to bat first in overcast conditions and paid the price for it. Rohit admitted that he read the pitch wrong.

"We thought it won't help seamers much after the first session or so, there wasn't much grass too. We thought it would be flat. It was a misjudgement, and I couldn't read the pitch well," he said.

New Zeland rode on a superb counter-attacking 91 from opener Conway to end the day on 180/3, 134 runs ahead of India.
