Ravichandran Ashwin pips India teammate Jasprit Bumrah to go top of the ICC Test rankings for bowlers. Following his player-of-the-match performance in the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, Bumrah became the first Indian pacer to go top of the ranking, going past Ashwin.
Ashwin re-claims the top spot following his nine wickets against England in the fifth Test in Dharamsala. India registered a thumping innings victory and also claimed the series 4-1.
Ashwin now has 870 rating points, while Bumrah and Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood and joint-second in the list with 847 points. Kuldeep Yadav, who finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker for India with 19 scalps in the series against England has reached his career-best of 16th.
There was good news for the Indian batters as well. Rohit Sharma, who slammed a ton in Dharamsala, has moved five places to sixth in the batting rankings, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was the player-of-the-series has jumped two spots to eighth. The list is currently being led by Kane Williamson who has accumulated 859 rating points.
After failing to make a substantial contribution in the second Test against New Zealand veteran batter Steven Smith has dropped to fifth spot, while Daryl Mitchell and Babar Azam sharing the third spot behind Williamson and Joe Root.
Among the all-rounders, India's Ravindra Jadeja with rating points of 444 is well ahead of second-placed Ashwin, who has accumulated 322 points so far. Australia skipper Pat Cummins has moved up two spots to eighth following his impressive show with bat and ball in Christchurch.
