The 2024/25 domestic season is going from bad to worse for Shreyas Iyer, who against Baroda on October 12 (Saturday), registered yet another duck, making it three for the season.
Iyer, who registered two ducks in the Duleep Trophy representing India ‘D’, has now scored three first innings ducks in his last four first class games, after not troubling the scorers in the first innings against both India A and India B in the Duleep Trophy clashes in Anantapur.
On the day, Iyer, who walked in to bat at No.5, was sent packing for a duck by veteran left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt. Iyer walked in at 140/3 and lasted just eight balls.
The right-hander's duck comes on the back of him being left out of India's squad for three-Test series against New Zealand.
In the same clash, both Prithvi Shaw (7) and Ajinkya Rahane (29) fell cheaply. While Rahane was also dismissed by Bhatt, Shaw fell to Krunal Pandya, who castled the right-hander.
At the time of writing this, Mumbai (144/5) still trail Baroda (290) by 146 runs in the first innings.
Defending champions Mumbai are entering the Ranji Trophy having won their first Irani Cup this century after triumphing over Rest of India in Lucknow.
