Spinner Radha Yadav became the first ever Indian player to pick up four wickets and take three catches in a single Women's One-Day International (ODI) innings. She achieved this feat in the second WODI against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on October 27 (Sunday).
Bowling first, India allowed New Zealand to get to a formidable 259/9 in their 50 overs. However, Radha finished with figures of 4/69 from her 10 overs. Her spell included a caught and bowled dismissal of Suzie Bates for 58. She sprung into action once again to run back from short cover and complete a diving catch to send Brooke Halliday packing for eight.
Before that, Radha had held on to another superb catch, diving to her right in the mid-wicket region to get rid of Georgia Plimmer for 41.
Only Harbhajan Singh (5/43 & 3 catches) had achieved this feat among the Indian men's side — against England in 2002 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Five other women cricketers have achieved what Radha did in this match. Most recently, it was Bangladesh's Khadija Tul Kubra who picked up 6/20 against Pakistan and also held on to three catches in the same innings in Cox Bazar in 2018. Other cricketers include Amelia Kerr (4/42 & 3 catches), Anisa Mohammed (5/26 & 3 catches), Vari Maxwell (4/38 & 3 catches) and Jacqueline Court (4/29 & 3 catches).
In the ongoing series, India are 1-0 up following their comprehensive 59-run victory in the first ODI at the same venue.
