Rachin Ravindra has been awarded the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for his outstanding performance last season, New Zealand Cricket (NZC), in a media release on Wednesday (March 13). Ravindra (24) is the youngest player to receive this honour.
Among the women cricketers, Amelia Kerr has been recognised for her brilliant performances and has been bestowed with the Debbie Hockley Medal for the second year in a row at the New Zealand Cricket Awards ceremony in Christchurch.
Kerr has had a phenomenal season that saw her being named in the ICC ODI and T20I teams of 2023. She was White Ferns' leading ODI run-scorer with 541 runs at 67, scoring her third and fourth ton in the format. The leg-spinning all-rounder was also the highest T20I run-scorer with 252 runs at an average of 42 and a strike-rate of 118.
Sir Richard Hadlee Medal is yet another feather in Ravindra's cap following a breakout year. He was the fourth-highest run-getter in the 2023 ODI World Cup with 578 runs at 64, which included three tons and a couple of fifties. He started the tournament off with an unbeaten 123 against England in Ahmedabad.
Ravindra continued to excel even in the Test arena. Recently, he scored 240 against South Africa - New Zealand's highest-ever maiden Test century at the Bay Oval, which proved to play a pivotal role in his side clinching their first-ever Test series win over the Proteas.
He also represented his country in 14 T20Is in the season, the highlight of which was a 35-ball 68 in the against Australia in Wellington.
Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell have been awarded the Test and ODI players of the year respectively, while Mitchell Santner takes home the honour in T20Is.
