Nida Dar stays as captain in Pakistan's new-look side for Women's Asia Cup 2024

The 8-team tournament will be held in Sri Lanka in Dambulla between July 19 and July 28

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced Pakistan’s 15-player squad for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 to be held in Sri Lanka in July. Having gone winless in their six white-ball games on their tour of England in May, the board has made quite a few changes to the core of the side. However, the skipper Nida Dar, has held her position in the squad for the Women’s Asia Cup as captain of the side. Meanwhile, Ayesha Zafar and Sadaf Shamas are among the notable omissions.

Dar averaged only 17.5 in three W-T20Is but picked five wickets with her off-spinners.

Natalia Pervaiz, Rameen Shamim, Umm-e-Hani and Waheeda Akhtar are the other absentees from the England tour. The batting all-rounder Iram Javed is called back alongside Omaima Sohail and Syeda Arooba Shah. None of the three have featured in international cricket this year. The 22-year-old left-arm seamer Tasmia Rubab has earned her first call-up to the national team.

The Asia Cup, which will be held in Dambulla between July 19 and July 28, will be played in the T20 format with eight teams. PCB announced the squad after a four-day camp in Karachi from June 26 to June 29. Another camp will follow in Karachi between July 5 and July 16.

The Women’s Asia Cup will be the first assignment for the recently appointed support staff — the head coach Mohammad Wasim, assistant coach Junaid Khan and the spin-bowling coach, Abdur Rehman. At present, this is the only tournament they are assigned to without a long-term contract.

Pakistan are placed with India, Nepal and UAE in Group A. They will play their first fixture against in the night game on July 19 against India.
