Chennai Super Kings (CSK) chief executive Kasi Viswanathan was happy that the franchise was able to get back Dwayne Bravo and Robin Uthappa but remained pragmatic about reassembling the team that won the IPL 2021 title.
CSK got back senior allrounder Bravo for Rs 4.40 crore and Uthappa for base price of Rs 2 crore alongside Ambati Rayudu for Rs. 9.75 crore.
"We are very happy that we got back Robbie as well as Bravo," Viswanathan told the franchise's official channel.
Viswanathan was all praise for the duo as he felt their experience will be crucial for their title defense. Bravo, who has been with CSK since 2011, has played 120 matches for the team and scored 1257 runs while picking up 138 wickets at an average of 23.
"Bravo has always been the main death bowler for us. If he can play all the games for us, it's going to be very crucial," he said of the Trinidadian, who recently announced international retirement.
"I am coming back home. I'm looking forward to IPL 2022, to defend our title. CSK forever!" Bravo said in a video message following his return.
"Robbie is one of the most experienced IPL cricketers available in the circuit right now. You have seen how he performed last year. We are very confident that his experience and committment will take CSK through in this season also," he said of Uthappa, who played crucial knocks of 66 and 31 in the IPL 2021 play-off and final respectively.
However, the IPL champions were unable to get back opener Faf du Plessis, who was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 7 Crore while allrounder Shardul Thakur went to Delhi Capitals for Rs 10.75 crore.
"In fact, there was a little bit disappointment that get couldn't get Faf. We always that in this auction it will not be possible to get back all the player who played for CSK," Viswanathan said.
CSK have retained captain MS Dhoni, allrounders Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali alongside opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad in November.
