Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav have not been named in the 25-member Ranji Trophy 2024-25 probables the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), announced on September 25 (Wednesday), according to Sportstar. Rohit and Suryakumar have been sharing the responsibility of leading India, but they have been given the option of making themselves available depending on their international schedule.

The usual norm has always been to announce 30 probable, but the MCA have left five spots vacant and will add to it based on the talent they find from the local competitions. Ajinkya Rahane, who was named Mumbai captain for the Irani Cup, is also part of the Mumbai probables.

“We have left the five probables slots open. We shall keep adding names to the pool of probables as the local season progresses,” Sanjay Patil, the chairman of the selection panel, told Sportstar. 

“The selection committee has unanimously decided this in consultation with the CIC chief Raju Kulkarni, our mentor Milind Rege and the office-bearers.”

The probables list also does not include fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, who is expected to have ankle surgery in London on September 30. His return will be determined after his progress post-surgery and rehabilitation. 

The Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season will begin on October 11. Mumbai will play Baroda in the first round.

Mumbai probables for Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Ajinkya Rahane, Prithvi Shaw, Ayush Mhatre, Musheer Khan, Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, Siddhesh Lad, Suryansh Shedge, Hardik Tamore (wk), Sidhhant Adhatrao, (wk), Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Himanshu Singh, Mohit Avasthi, Junaid Khan, Royston Dias, Harsh Tanna, Prasad Pawar (wk), Shashank Attarde, Karsh Kothari, Atharva Ankolekar, Jay Bista, Saksham Jha.
