There has been a slight change in the planning of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the second semi-final in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States of America, as per the reports by Cricbuzz.
The two semi-finals are scheduled for June 26 and June 27, and the final is scheduled for June 29. Both the semi-finals have been allowed one reserve day each in case the game fails to finish on the allotted day itself.
However, in a case where the second semifinal goes into a reserve day (June 28), there might be a situation where the second semi-final winner plays the final the very next day.
Moreover, they’ll have to travel the same day and reach Bridgetown in Barbados, where the final is scheduled to be played.
To avoid such a situation, the second semi-final, scheduled to be played in Guyana on June 27 from 10:30 AM (local time), will now not have a reserve day but rather will be allowed an extra 250 minutes.
That allows the umpires roughly eight hours to finish the game.
“All four teams have exactly the same opportunity to finish a game,” a source quoted by Cricbuzz said.
“For performance reasons, to ensure teams do not have to 'play, travel, play' on consecutive days, the decision was taken to allocate the additional time for the second semi-final immediately post the game because the game is a 10.30 AM start, whilst the first semi-final is an evening start, which means it is not feasible to pay all additional time on the same day.”
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will begin on June 1 and will feature 20 teams divided into four groups of five teams each.
