New role brings a lot of responsibility, excitement and enthusiasm: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav’s first full assignment as the new T20 skipper will be to lead a 15-member squad in Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin on July 27 in Pallekele

With a change in guard, there’s a new beginning in Indian cricket. After Rohit Sharma’s T20 retirement and with Rahul Dravid making way for Gautam Gambhir as the head coach, the selectors, after deliberating with the team management, decided to hand over the captaincy reins to Suryakumar Yadav in the shortest format.

It was particularly surprising because Hardik Pandya was named the vice-captain for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and was also in line to be the next skipper, but the selectors had other ideas. After being given new responsibilities, Suryakumar Yadav has expressed his gratitude while showcasing excitement and enthusiasm about the role.

"Thank you so much for outpouring love, support and best wishes from you. Last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream and I am truly grateful. Playing for the country is the most special feeling that I will never be able to describe in words,” Suryakumar Yadav wrote on Instagram.

“This new role brings with it, a lot of responsibility, excitement and enthusiasm. I hope to keep receiving your support and blessings. All fame reaches God; God is great.”

Suryakumar Yadav’s first full assignment as the new T20 skipper will be to lead a 15-member squad in Sri Lanka, with the first T20I being scheduled to begin on July 27 in Pallekele. The Mumbaikar led India to a 4-1 T20 series win over Australia right after the Cricket World Cup final before leading the team to a 1-1 result in South Africa.
