Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan has offered to quit as the president of the board, according to a report from Cricbuzz. Nazmul is believed to have fled the country following the ouster of PM Sheikh Hasina. All the supporters of the former PM and her party Awami Leaue party have been fleeing the country following students protests that eventually led to the fall of the government.
It is understood that a couple of board members in Dhaka discussed the next course of action, while several board officials have come to the Shere Bangla Stadium over the last couple of days and demanded that the Nazmul-led panel step down.
"One of our directors is in touch with him and, according to him, Papon bhai is ready to cooperate [with the government] and is also prepared to quit from the President's post to bring reform in the board," a BCB director, who attended the meeting, told Cricbuzz on August 15 (Thursday).
Recently, the sports minister was considering having an interim president within the framework of the ICC. The current panel was elected to run until October 2025. However, the larger section is concerned that the move could potentially affect Bangladesh's chances of hosting the Women's T20 World Cup starting October 3.
The same report also mentions that the BCB have sought legal advice on how to run the board with plenty of directors unavailable. They are also in touch with the interim government and are keeping them posted about their plan of action.
