Mitchell Starc, on November 4 (Monday), became the sixth Australian to take 100 One-Day International (ODI) wickets in Australia. The left-arm paceman achieved the landmark by dismissing Saim Ayub in the first ODI against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The 34-year-old knocked over Ayub in the third over and then had Abdullah Shafique caught behind in the seventh over. Starc even dismissed Shaheen Afridi to eventually finish with figures of 3/33 in 10 overs, including three maidens. In Australia, Starc now has 102 wickets in 54 ODIs at an average of 21.1 and a strike rate of 26.1.
Brett Lee (169), Glenn McGrath (161), Shane Warne (136) and Craig McDermott (125) are the only ones with more ODI wickets Down Under than Starc. Steve Waugh also has 101 wickets in Australia.
Amongst these six aforementioned players, Starc’s average of 21.1 is the second best after McGrath’s 20.2. However, his strike rate is the best among all these men. He is the quickest to 100 ODI wickets in Australia. Lee got to the landmark in his 55th ODI in Australia.
Overall, Starc has 244 wickets in 126 ODIs at an average of 23.3 and a strike rate of 26.6.
