Klaasen picks Indian skipper as T20 GOAT

Klaasen also mentioned that he would like to borrow the combination of sweeps by AB de Villiers and Suryakumar Yadav

South African superstar Heinrich Klaasen termed Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) T20 cricketer.

In an interaction with Jiocinema, the Indian broadcaster of South African cricket, Klaasen was asked as to who would be called the GOAT of T20 cricket among the active players and he said, “Oh good one. I would probably say SKY (Surya’s nickname).”

Klassen narrowly missed out on carrying his team to their first-ever World Cup title, when he got out while the Proteas needed run-a-ball with six wickets in hand to win the T20 World Cup 2024 final against India.

On being asked about one shot that he would like to borrow from some other batter, past or present, the wicketkeeper-batter once again named the combination Surya’s and AB de Villers’ scoop.

“It would be a combination of the scoop of AB de Villiers and SKY,” answered the 33-year-old.

The snippet shared by Jiocinema looked more like a Suryakumar appreciation post by Klaasen. The Proteas batter once again picked the Indian T20 captain when asked about which shot he always wanted to play but is too afraid to do so.

“The one that SKY plays over the fine leg [Supla]. But I don’t like getting into the line too much,” he said.

The Indian team is currently in South Africa to play a four-match T20Is series which is all square at 1-1 after the first two games. The third match of the tie will be played at Centurion tonight (November 13).
