Karun Nair getting selected will motivate players to perform in domestic cricket: Venkatesh Prasad

Nair, 33, last played international cricket eight years ago but has bolted back into contention

Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad believes that Karun Nair's selection for the forthcoming ODI series against England would help' motivate players’ to perform in domestic cricket, knowing they’ll be rewarded for success in the domestic circuit.

Nair, 33, last played international cricket eight years ago but has bolted back into contention on the back of a ludicrous Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024/25 campaign for Vidarbha in which he’s currently averaging 752. The right-hander has blasted five centuries in seven innings and, earlier, set a new world record for the most consecutive runs scored in List A cricket without being dismissed, scoring 542 runs without losing his wicket even once.

“Though 33, but with the kind of domestic one day season Karun Nair has had, it would be good to see him for the ODI’s against England,” Prasad wrote on X.

“Would also help in motivating players to play and perform in domestic cricket.”

The squads for both the England ODIs and the Champions Trophy will be announced by the BCCI tomorrow.

Known for his triple hundred in a Test in Chennai against England, Nair also played two ODIs for India in 2016 against Zimbabwe.
