England white-ball captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the entirety of the ongoing season of The Hundred with a calf injury that he is believed to have sustained in the lead-up to the competition.
Buttler, who is the incumbent captain of the Manchester Originals, was last in action during the 2024 T20 World Cup but was expected to feature in the ongoing season of The Hundred.
The injury he sustained initially ruled him out of the Originals’ first few games, but Buttler has now taken to Instagram to confirm that he will take no part in the ongoing season.
"Gutted to be missing the Hundred this year," Buttler wrote on his Instagram story.
"Best of luck to the Manchester Originals for the rest of the campaign. Working hard to be 100% fit asap [as soon as possible]."
In Buttler’s absence, Phil Salt is leading the Originals. But it’s been a season to forget so far for the franchise, which is currently bottom of the table, having lost each of their three matches.
England will hope that Buttler will recover in time for their next white-ball assignment against Australia in mid-September. The Three Lions are scheduled to play three T20Is and five ODIs against their arch-rivals from September 11 to September 29.
